Midwifery Group

The oldest continuous hospital-based midwifery practice in Massachusetts, the Midwifery Group at Brigham and Women’s Hospital welcomes more than 1,000 babies per year, offering continuous, 24-hour, in-hospital coverage for labor, delivery, postpartum and triage. An integral part of the Brigham and Women’s Center for Women and Newborns, our midwives are certified by the American College of Nurse-Midwives and licensed by the state of Massachusetts.

The Midwifery Group provides:

  • Prenatal care
  • Midwifery care during labor and birth
  • Postpartum care
  • Family planning and wellness education
  • Gynecological care

We are proud of our long tradition of providing sensitive, thorough care for women. Our care principle is based on the midwifery philosophy that childbirth is a normal process. We incorporate the most recent and sophisticated medical practices into our care as needed, and we work collaboratively with the Harvard Medical School attending physicians and chief residents for women who have certain higher-risk conditions or who develop complications while pregnant or postpartum. We provide first-language prenatal care in English, Spanish, French, Cape Verdean Creole, and Haitian Kreyol to our patients.

We are a community health center-based practice with locations throughout Boston. Our patients receive prenatal care at these locations with their primary midwife and deliver their babies at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. We have one prenatal clinic located at Brigham and Women’s Hospital that serves women aged 21 and younger called Adolescent Reproductive Health Services. View our locations to find the one closest to you and learn more about our midwives. We look forward to meeting you!
