Natalie Wolkow, MD, PhD, of the Division of Ophthalmology, received the 2023 Massachusetts Eye and Ear Fellowship through Harvard Medical School’s (HMS) Eleanor and Miles Shore Faculty Development Awards Program. This fellowship supports early-career faculty by providing protected time from clinical, teaching or other responsibilities to pursue academic work, including research, or developing a new clinical or teaching program.
The fellowship program was established in 1995 to help junior faculty at the point in their careers when they must teach, do research, compete for grants or practice at the same time they may be assuming increased family or other responsibilities. The award will support Wolkow’s study of lacrimal gland inflammation and lacrimal gland histopathologic features. She will be formally recognized at an HMS ceremony in November.
Wolkow’s research interests include novel treatments for orbital and eyelid cancers, orbital and eyelid infections, histopathology of periocular foreign materials and the development of new surgical techniques such as corneal neurotization for patients with neurotrophic keratopathy.
