Reardon, Thompson Win Robert G. Fenley Writing Award for General Staff Writing

Jennifer Reardon Lauren Thompson

Jennifer Reardon, director of Publications, and Lauren Thompson, associate director of Publications, both of the Development Office, won The Robert G. Fenley Writing Award for General Staff Writing from the Group on Institutional Advancement (GIA) of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). These awards recognize the most creative and effective approaches used to promote academic medicine through communications.

Reardon won the Silver Award for her story “Women ≠ Tiny Men,” featured in the summer 2023 edition of Brigham magazine, “Care for Every Body: Embracing Inclusive Medicine.” The article focuses on the lack of sex and gender balance in medical research over the years, its negative impact on women’s health and how the Brigham has been working to make research, education and care more inclusive.

Thompson won the Gold Award for her story “Soul Meets Body,” also featured in the summer 2023 edition. In the article, Thompson interviews two patients and several faculty from the Brigham’s Center for Transgender Health about their experiences and the benefits of incorporating lifesaving, gender-affirming care into their health care plans.

Brigham magazine is published annually by the Brigham and Women’s Development Office. The magazine seeks to deepen understandings of how the latest innovations in medicine and science are enabling extraordinary patient care through journalistic storytelling, compelling photography, video, illustration and design.
