As part of our ongoing service to referring physicians, we provide the following referral options.
Physician Referral Service and Patient Appointments
Our trained coordinators can facilitate consultations and second opinions. If you are unsure of which Brigham and Women's physician to contact, the coordinator can direct you to the appropriate faculty member. The Physician Referral Service is staffed Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm. After hours, you may leave a message which will be returned promptly on the next business day.
Transfer a Patient
The Brigham and Women's Access Center provides efficient patient transfers to Brigham and Women's Hospital and Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital. The Center is staffed 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week by a knowledgeable and caring staff that will facilitate a seamless patient transfer. Through one phone call, coordination of the transfer will be efficient, timely, and safe.
The Online Physician Directory provides profiles of all physicians and specialists at Brigham and Women's Hospital.

MDCONNECT (Inpatient Transfer Service)
MDCONNECT is a joint program of Brigham and Women's and Massachusetts General Hospital – founding tertiary care hospitals of Mass General Brigham System – and is a community physician's direct link to the transfer and transport services of these hospitals. With one call, MDCONNECT will coordinate timely communication between referring and receiving physicians, locate inpatient beds, and arrange transport. Ground-based, mobile ICUs, staffed with specially trained nurses and paramedics, are also available through this service. To transfer a patient to Brigham and Women's Hospital 24 hours-a-day, call toll-free 1-877-637-3337, press the number "2" for Brigham and Women's, and an MDCONNECT operator will facilitate all aspects of the transfer.
Ellen Steward provides direct assistance with patient referrals and consultations with our specialists. She is also available to meet with you in your practice. Ellen can be reached at 617-582-4733 or email@example.com.
The Care Coordination Department provides discharge planning, utilization management, and psychosocial care services throughout a patient's stay. The process includes continuous communication between the patient and family, Brigham and Women's Hospital physician, the referring physician, and the insurer. Care Coordination staff assist all patients through their stay at our hospital, however, physicians recognizing a particular need for service prior to a patient's admission may make a referral directly to the department at the above numbers, Monday through Friday, 8:30am-5pm. During evenings and weekends, call the page operator at (617) 732-6660 and ask for the care coordinator on call.
