Selecting Your Hospital

When you choose your obstetrician-gynecologist (OB/GYN) or nurse midwife, you will also be selecting the hospital where that provider has admitting privileges. Rest assured that Brigham and Women's Hospital is an excellent selection, a trusted name in women’s health. Ranked as the #1 hospital in the nation in obstetrics and gynecology by U.S. News and World Report, BWH and its Center for Women and Newborns welcome more than 6,200 babies every year. We offer exceptional high-risk pregnancy care before, during and after delivery.

From the moment you arrive at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, you’ll notice the difference. Here you’ll find a state-of-the-art facility that provides the most advanced care while also offering a nurturing, patient and family-focused approach. To ease worries and speed the admissions process, we offer valet service and a designated OB admitting area. Strict security measures keep you and your baby safe throughout your stay.

Experienced physicians, midwives and nurses monitor early labor. As labor progresses, you’ll be moved to one of 24 private delivery rooms equipped with adjustable birthing beds and pullout chairs for your support person. We supply everything needed to achieve your birth plan. For patients requiring caesarean sections, operating rooms are nearby.

Private postpartum rooms for you and your newborn are spacious and staffed by skilled and compassionate nurses who provide care, teaching and support, including lactation guidance. Our Department of Pediatrics physicians care for newborns of all gestational ages and are especially trained to care for premature newborns. Our Level III Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) unit cares for nearly 3,000 premature and seriously ill babies each year. We are connected by a bridge to Children’s Hospital where renowned pediatric specialists are readily available. Watch the video: Having Your Baby at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
