Chief Quality Officer
Allen Kachalia, MD, JD, is Chief Quality Officer at Brigham & Women’s Hospital.
Kachalia joined Brigham & Women’s in 2003 and clinically practices as an academic hospitalist on the hospital wards with medical students and residents. Kachalia’s research focuses on legal issues in medicine, particularly liability system reform and disclosure of medical error, and how they relate to the quality and safety of medical care.
Kachalia is also Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School as well as the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Harvard School of Public Health where he teaches a course on legal issues in clinical medicine.
A native of Southern California, Kachalia is a graduate of University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine, and University of Pennsylvania Law School. He completed his internal medicine residency and a year as a chief resident at the University of Michigan.
