Edelman Wins Cardiovascular Research Foundation's TCT Career Achievement Award

Elazer Edelman, MD, PhD

Elazer Edelman, MD, PhD, of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, was honored with the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) Career Achievement Award by the Cardiovascular Research Foundation in recognition of his distinguished career in cardiology, research and innovation. The award celebrates pioneers in interventional cardiovascular medicine.

Edelman was lauded for his lab’s groundbreaking work in vascular biology and biotechnology. His research examining the cellular and molecular mechanisms that produce atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease critically advanced the development and optimization of the first bare-metal stents and subsequent iterations. His most recent work has focused on how tissue-engineered cells might be used for the local delivery of growth factors and growth inhibitors in the study of the vascular disease and cancer.

Edelman’s clinical interests include atherosclerosis – a disease characterized by plaque buildup in the arteries – as well as how this condition is managed and the mechanisms that lead to unstable coronary syndrome.

The Cardiovascular Research Foundation is dedicated to identifying, developing and promoting the latest advancements in the treatment of heart disease. Its annual symposium, TCT, is the world’s largest and most important educational meeting specializing in interventional cardiovascular medicine.
