- During the recent H1N1 influenza outbreak, Atul Gawande, MD, MPH helped lead a World Health Organization (WHO) effort to rapidly produce a patient care checklist for hospitals managing suspected or confirmed cases. The checklist was pilot tested in 7 hospitals in 4 countries, and then released by WHO for worldwide use. Read more here.

- Stanley Ashley, MD, wrote the Foreword in the April edition of Current Problems in Surgery.
- John Ayanian, MD, published an article in Annals of Internal Medicine entitled, “Differences in control of cardiovascular disease and diabetes by race, ethnicity, and education: U.S. trends from 1999 to 2006 and effects of Medicare coverage”.
Grants and Awards
- Caprice Greenberg, MD, MPH was awarded $160,000 from the Rx Foundation for her project "Using video for a prospective analysis of surgical safety."
- Atul Gawande, MD, MPH was awarded $250,000 from CRICO/RMF to continue his work with the Harvard Safer Surgery Collaborative.
