- The Safe Surgery Checklist was featured on episode 19 of ER which aired on March 12th. Watch it here. The clip occurs at minutes 31:00 to 35:00 of the episode.
- John Z. Ayanian, MD, the Medical Director at the Center for Surgery and Public Health presented the findings of a recent IOM report. It found that uninsured adults are 25 percent more likely to die prematurely than adults who do have insurance. Patients who have serious conditions such as heart disease or cancer face risks of premature death that are 40 to 50 percent higher. Read the IOM report here.
- Atul Gawande, MD, MPH, testified before the Committee on Energy and Commerce's Subcommittee on Health solutions for designing a highly effective healthcare system on March 10th in Washington, DC. Download his testimony here.
CSPH Recent Publications- Jim Hu, MD, MPH and Stuart Lipsitz, ScD had their article entitled, “Surgical apgar outcome score: perioperative risk assessment for radical cystectomy” published in the Journal of Urology.
- Michael Zinner, MD, and Stan Ashley, MD, published an article entitled, “Impact of radiologic intervention on mortality in necrotizing pancreatitis: the role of organ failure” in Archives of Surgery.
NIH Grant Deadlines
- NIH Challenge Grants are due April 27.
- New RO1 Research Grants Cycle II are due June 5 and Cycle III on October 5.
- New K Series Research Career Development grants Cycle II are due June 12 and Cycle III on October 12.
