Brigham and Women’s Hospital also has affiliations with Kent Hospital in Warwick, Rhode Island; Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine; and Harbor Medical Associates, where patients can be seen by BWH providers.
Bench to Bedside: Translating Research to Treatment
From concept to care, our cardiology specialists forge ahead with revolutionary ideas: fostering them in BWH research laboratories, shepherding them through years of clinical trials and ushering these new treatments, medications and technologies into clinical practice worldwide.
The discoveries of BWH cardiologists—past and present—have been life-changing for people with heart disease:
- Preventing heart attacks with aspirin therapy;
- Halting the progression of heart failure with ACE inhibitor medications and the new drug LCZ696 or Entresto;
- Lowering cholesterol with statin drugs and preventing first-ever cardiovascular events in people with elevated C-reactive protein
- Merging medicine and engineering with mechanical support devices and interventional cardiology
- Helping entire families combat inherited heart disease with cardiovascular genetic testing.
Today, our cardiologists have over 150 promising clinical trials in the research-to-patient-care pipeline, promising a brighter, heart-healthy future for millions.
