Thyroid Nodule Clinic

The Thyroid Nodule Clinic is a multi-discipline outpatient clinic involving the Thyroid, Ultrasound, and Cytopathology Sections. This clinic is directed by Ellen Marqusee, M.D. (Thyroid Section), and Carol Benson, M.D., (Ultrasound), and includes Drs. Erik Alexander, Matthew Kim, P. Reed Larsen, Karla Pou, Peter Doubilet, Mary Frates, Julie Ritner and Lisa Zorn. 

Thyroid Tumor Clinic

The goal of the Thyroid Tumor Clinic is to provide consultation for patients with complex manifestations of thyroid cancer, normally referred from outside centers. During 2008, the clinic recorded 270 visits. Under the direction of Dr. Ellen Marqusee, the clinic is run in cooperation with the Department of Surgery. Its goal is to provide pre-op counseling care for patients who have had fine needle aspirations of thyroid nodules with cytological evaluation suggesting the possibility of thyroid malignancy and therefore waiting surgical intervention. The Thyroid Section also has treated patients with hyperthyroidism with radioactive iodine, succeeding in cure with a single treatment in over 85% without significant ophthalmological complications. This high degree of success can be attributed to the careful pretreatment assessment of radioiodine uptake and appropriate calculation of the radioiodine dose to be administered.
