Matthew Hamilton graduated from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 2002 and completed his internal medicine training at Boston Medical Center, Boston University in 2005. He became a clinical research fellow with the gastroenterology division at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School and entered the basic science research track. Dr. Hamilton worked in the laboratory of Professor Richard Stevens in the division of immunology and received funding from the gastroenterology fellowship T32 NIH training grant. He has been studying the role of mast cells in intestinal inflammation at the basic and translational level and completed the fellowship in 2009. Dr. Hamilton is currently a junior faculty member conducting the mast cell research initiated during fellowship. He is funded by a research grant from the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America and has been awarded the NIH Loan Payment Award for his research work.
