Jessica Manning earned her BS from the University of Georgia in 2002, her GradDipBMSc from Victoria University, New Zealand, in 2005, and her MD from Emory University in 2010. In New Zealand, she studied immunology as a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholar. During medical school she spent three months as a graduate policy fellow on the PEPFAR evaluation team at the Institute of Medicine. Following this, she served as an NIH Fogarty International Clinical Research Scholar in Mali for a year where she provided clinical care and conducted a genomics case-control study to identify novel malarial vaccine targets. As a Global Health Equity resident, she hopes to further develop the skills she most highly prized in Mali – creative problem solving, sharp intellect, clinical acumen, and cultural sensitivity. She also plans to pursue an MPH to strengthen her quantitative and analytical skills.
