Barbara Dworetzky, MD, (shown consulting with a patient), leads the comprehensive Edward B. Bromfield Epilepsy Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital

The Edward B. Bromfield Epilepsy Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital offers the full range of medical and surgical care for the treatment of epilepsy, a disease that affects nearly three million people in the United States.

With many new medications on the market, many of our patients can be successfully treated with the right combination of anti-epileptic medications to control their seizures.  However, one third of those diagnosed with this condition have seizures that cannot be controlled with these medications.

Brigham and Women’s Hospital is a level IV nationally accredited center that offers state-of-the-art care to those with difficult-to-control refractory seizures. We have caring physicians who are very knowledgeable about your condition.

BWH is home to the most advanced brain imaging technologies available, which allow us to map the brain with the most precise detail and pinpoint areas where seizures originate, and, thus, perform surgery without disrupting important brain function. However, we treat more than just the disease. With a condition such as epilepsy that can cause tremendous challenges, it is critical to treat the whole patient. In addition to medical care, we provide psychiatric, psychological and social support to individuals and their families.

Watch Frances Jensen, MD, a neurologist at BWH and Children's Hospital, Boston, explain what happens during an epileptic seizure in this video clip
from a 60 Minutes feature on epilepsy.

To schedule a new patient visit or consultation please call (617) 732-7547.
