The Division of Oral Medicine and Dentistry provides ambulatory and inpatient dental services to medically complex patients. Specialty care is offered in oral medicine and oral pathology. Evening, holiday and weekend emergency coverage is available.

Oral Medicine

The Center for Oral Disease provides consultative and treatment services for oral mucosal, salivary gland, bony or dental pathology conditions including ulcerative and/or vesiculobullous lesions, red and white lesions, suspected cancerous or precancerous lesions, unusual pigmented lesions, suspected oral manifestation of systemic or dermatologic disease, unusual osseous or dental lesions, oral complications of drug therapy, oral complications of cancer therapies, xerostomia and salivary gland diseases including Sjogren's syndrome.  The Center also manages orofacial pain disorders including atypical facial pain, myofascial pain disorder, and burning mouth syndrome.

Dental Services

Nathaniel Treister, DMD, DMSc, Director

Dental services are limited to evaluation and treatment of inpatients with emergent dental complications or oral infections and treatment of outpatients who need to be seen in the hospital setting due to their medical conditions.  The clinic also provides consultative services for patients prior to as well as following stem cell transplantation and treatment for head and neck cancer.  We work closely with outside referring dentists and physicians as a team to determine the most appropriate treatment plan in light of previous therapies and ongoing medical care.   Routine dental care for the general population is not provided at Brigham and Women's Hospital.
