Furthermore, we offer a number of more formalized programs for every kind of nurse:
Our Nurse Intern Program provides newly licensed nurses with a career path designed to advance their skills in a supportive and rewarding environment. It is designed for new licensed nurses hired to work on any of our medical/surgical or intermediate (step-down) units. 12 -16 weeks in length, this orientation program will familiarize you with the full spectrum of nursing activities.
- Assessment, orientation and skills validation program
- Development of an individualized learning contract
- Specialized didactic sessions focusing on the critical aspects of nursing care
- Case presentation sessions utilized to develop critical thinking skills
- Clinical leadership development series
- Six 12-week clinical preceptorship with weekly coaching and performance review
- Clinically appropriate patient assignment with continued coaching by senior staff
The Brigham and Women's Hospital is approved as a provider of continuing education in nursing by the Rhode Island State Nurses Association. The Rhode Island State Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of continuing education in nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
A certification course for Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) offered at Brigham and Women's Hospital for health professionals. Through lecture and demonstration, participants develop skills necessary to provide advanced cardiac life support.
- Basic Life Support
Through lecture and demonstration, participants develop skills necessary to provide basic life support.

- ICU Introductory course: A primer course in critical care techniques and technology to ease the transition into critical care and enhance the learning curve, as well as precepted clinical assignments with critical care faculty.
- 10-12 week one-to-one mentorship in the ICU environment.
- Extensive orientation organized with week by week learning objectives.
- Classroom case-review activities.
- ICU Consortium 6 day overview of critical care concepts
- Comprehensive evaluation of ICU skill set at end of orientation.

This program is designed for the experienced nurse to introduce our unique systems, build strong relationships with other staff, facilitate clinical judgment, and apply wisdom gained through experience to patient care. This is an outstanding way to gain familiarity with the ways in which Brigham and Women operates.

Beginning each year in September, this exclusive program accepts a limited number of graduate RN's. The goal is to introduce you to the unique practices of our level 1 trauma center which treats over 55,000 patients every year. At the forefront of emergency room technology and practices, this is an outstanding way to learn, firsthand, the vital role nurses play in this important healthcare field.
