Professional/Managerial
Keeping up with all the clinical, research and teaching advancements of a leading academic medical center and biomedical research institution is at the very least a huge undertaking - and one that certainly doesn't allow the BWH Public Affairs team to rest on their laurels.
BWH's Department of Public Affairs oversees internal and external communications. This includes coordinating and producing several publications and other electronic and web-based communications for 13,000 employees and staff, pitching and responding to hundreds of inquiries each year from local, national and international media outlets, seeking information on our groundbreaking research, medical milestones and expert opinions on a broad range of healthcare topics.
The department?s most valuable and rewarding responsibility is to the employees, patients and families that look to BWH for care and hope. The knowledge of a breakthrough new procedure or alternative treatment can make all the difference in the quality of life for all involved. So the job of the Public Affairs staff is not just to report the facts, but to communicate that understanding to the BWH community as a whole -- both the internal and external communities.
To build on Brigham and Women's Hospital traditions of innovation and compassionate patient care takes more than outstanding medicine, it also takes outstanding marketing. One of the most sophisticated and renowned healthcare and research organizations in the world, we rely on marketing expertise to coordinate our relations with the media and a global external audience.
Whether coordinating business plans, announcing new initiatives, or simply making our successes known, the men and women of our marketing department find their careers not only satisfying professionally, but personally as well.
Brigham and Women's Hospital knows that groundbreaking research and state-of-the-art medicine than physicians and nurses. Behind our vast resources - human, technological, and financial - is a sophisticated network of management professionals who make our organization as efficient and well-run as it is brilliant. We turn to finance professionals not only to manage our financial resources but to invest it wisely in ways that will ensure a secure future for us and our patients.
Like any large organization in the 21st century, Brigham and Women's demands complex and creative solutions to its financial needs. Thus we turn to men and women of talent and integrity to invest our precious resources wisely and ethically. A finance career at Brigham and Women's Hospital translates into better medicine and a healthier world - perhaps the best return of all.
Our purpose is clear - we exist to facilitate the achievement of excellence in clinical care delivery throughout Brigham and Women's/Faulkner Hospital - all while trying to solve some of the most important issues facing healthcare today.
The Center represents the institution's commitment to continually improve the processes by which care is provided to our patients, as well as the outcomes of that care. We accomplished this through the creative application of rigorous analytics, innovation and re-design methodologies, and extensive internal and external benchmarking to identify and spread best practices.
Some of our accomplishments as a team include:
- The National Quality Health Care Award in 2006 - marking only the 13th time that this award has been granted to a U.S. hospital.
- 2006 Best Practice Award by DM Review for our balanced scorecard program run by the Center
- Recognition in the 2006 University HealthSystems Consortium benchmarking project on Quality & Accountability. BWH was highlighted for the centralization of Decision Support, Patient Safety, Quality Programs, Performance Improvement, and Analysis & Planning functions under one integrated, collaborative structure.
Working in the Center provides a wonderful opportunity for both professional development and growth through exposure to all levels of service at BWH and Faulkner Hospitals, and the content and nature of the healthcare work undertaken.
