Supporting your Employee
Employees who are in school need some words of encouragement from time to time – just like we all do! Inevitably, there will be classes that are extra-difficult, life issues that arise, and other circumstances that make it difficult for your employee to move forward. The important thing is for you to stay engaged with your employee. Ask how classes are going, what’s hard, what’s easy, and look for opportunities to congratulate them on the little victories they achieve (ex: passing a final in Anatomy and Physiology).
Occasionally, there will be issues that you are not equipped to deal with or that may not be appropriate for you to address:
If your employee is having difficulty in class, encourage them to seek assistance at the school. All schools have trained advisors on hand, as well as free tutoring assistance.
For home/life issues, please direct your employee to EAP. You can find their services at: http://eap.partners.org/
For issues related to career choices, educational programs or other career-related issues, please contact the Career Coach at The Workforce Development office.
