Workforce Development offers several career development opportunities aimed at benefiting entry-level employees. Applicants participate in a formal assessment prior to beginning coursework. The next term begins in January 2010. For deadlines, please see the program description for the program you are interested in for more information. Patient Care Assistant Training:
Patient Care Assistant Training Program is an intensive 15 week training program that prepares entry-level employees to work as Patient Care Assistants at the hospital. The program is offered as part of collaboration with Bunker Hill Community College. Deadline for submitting applications is October 30th, 2009.
Math BridgeBWH is offering a ‘Math Bridge’ class for employees who want to strengthen their skills to get into a college math class Course Topics: Algebra and Arithmetic: Whole numbers and fractions, decimals and percents, signed numbers and rational, algebraic expressions, equations, inequalities, word problems and more. Deadline for submitting applications is October 30th, 2009.
Critical Reading Skills: This course develops basic reading skills necessary for success with college level material. The course will focus on improving comprehension and vocabulary. In particular, students will improve ability to recognize and articulate main ideas, supporting details, and patterns of organization. Students will also improve vocabulary skills using context clues and the dictionary.
School At Work/Passport to Advancement: Employee comprehensive training consisting administrative advancement track and a pre-college track. Class time varies depending on the track enrolled. Eight month program Loan Forgiveness/EFAP Program: This program awards up to $10,000 in an academic year to BWH non-contract employees enrolled in an educational program in a healthcare career in areas of high demand for BWH. ESOL: This program focuses on career development tools such as communicating with supervisors, interacting with patients, co-workers & physicians everyday, English and vocabulary, and problem solving. Employees attend classes over a 38 week period. Classes begin in September and end in May. For application deadline please contact us at 617-713-3738.
US Citizenship Classes:US Citizenship classes are now open for enrollment. To take part of this program you must attend one of the information sessions on November 10th or 17th or 24th @ 4:30pm, Classes start on 12/01 . GED Class:Do you need a high school diploma? This free class is designed to help you successfully pass the GED test and receive a GED diploma. Class will be held in the Longwood Medical Area, Monday and Wednesdays 5:30-7:30pm For more information contact: WFD at 617-713-3738
On-Line Tutoring: As part of the Allied Health Initiative, BWH has partnered with Smarthinking.com to offer employees access to free, live, online tutoring – accessible from home, school-wherever and whenever you need it! Tutoring is available in subjects like: Math (Basic to Calculus II), Writing, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, Bio, A&P, Accounting, Economics, Intro to Finance, Spanish, English and Statistics. Monthly Enrollment Microsoft Office Certificate Course:BWH Workforce Development in collaboration with Jewish Vocational Services (JVS) and SkillWorks are offering a comprehensive certificate program in the usage of Microsoft Word and Excel. This course aims to provide an opportunity for employees that are interested in increasing their computer skills to advance to higher administrative roles. This class will be offered in the Fall.
