Ethnicity Designation
Changes in PeopleSoft to select race and ethnic group
Each year, companies and organizations across the country are required to submit a government report called the Employer Information Report (or EEO-1) to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). This report provides a detailed count of employees by job category and by ethnicity, race and gender.
This year, the EEOC has revised this report with several major changes to the ethnic and racial categories. These revisions are meant to help the EEOC to better understand the changing demographics of the U.S. workforce and better track trends in career advancement for women and minorities.
To assist Brigham & Women’s Hospital and other Partners entities in complying with these revisions, a new page has been added to the PeopleSoft Employee Self-Service (ESS) that will allow employees to self identify their race/ethnic origin. This PeopleSoft option is now available.
Collecting this kind of data is not only important for the hospital to comply with federal standards, but also will help the BWH to better understand and assess our workforce in areas of diversity, job advancement and management structure.
We invite you to voluntarily self-identify your race and ethnicity. Making your selection is completely voluntary and will be kept confidential.
To change or elect your ethnicity click here or via the Intranet (internal-only) from your workstation select Start > Partners Applications > PeopleSoft. Once you log in to PeopleSoft, select PeopleSoft HRMS Production >Self Service > Employee > Tasks> Ethnicity.
We ask that all managers, supervisors and department heads help the Brigham & Women’s Hospital meet these new standards for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) by encouraging their staff to re-select their demographic information in PeopleSoft. Please contact your Human Resources Consultant or Recruiter with any questions.
