Made possible through the generosity of the Kessler Family Foundation, the goal of our Health Education Library is to provide you with up-to-date resources and staff support to better understand the health issues in your life or that of a loved one. Our librarians, health educators, staff and volunteers can assist you with access to our print, audiovisual and Internet resources.
The library is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am-5:30 pm and Saturday from 11:00 am-3:00 pm.
Our Resources and Services
Our collection of approximately 1,200 books, covering all aspects of medical care and wellness, includes reference, circulating, juvenile, foreign language, large print and Braille books. Weekly Book Talks on Mondays at 1:00 pm introduce visitors to the spectrum of books available. The library also provides access to approximately 400 medical eBooks through the Gale Virtual Reference Library and the netLibrary.
The library’s magazine collection includes over 30 consumer health magazines that span a variety of medical topics, such as Harvard Heart Letter, Arthritis Today and BabyTalk. The library also subscribes to various full-text online magazines, such as The New England Journal of Medicine.
Pamphlets and Brochures
We carry easy-to-read, informative pamphlets on over 100 health topics, such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, women's health, organ transplantation and smoking cessation.
The Kessler Library houses a collection of over 150 health education videos that can be viewed directly from the library computers or in a private conference room; titles include "How to Read and Use Food Labels" and "Breathing Free."
Visitors can utilize educational DVD/CDs and online versions of The Merck Manual, Merriam-Webster's Audio Medical Dictionary, The Ultimate Human Body and more. Access a complete list of DVD/CDs available in the Kessler Library.
Bring your wireless device to the library to download health Podcasts.
The library provides six computers with Internet access, as well as wireless access for visitors to work with their laptops or phones in the library. Headphones are available for videos and multimedia applications. Many family waiting rooms are also equipped with computers with access to the Kessler Library Intranet.
Reference library and health education staff and volunteers are available to answer your questions and provide information on support groups and other resources. Customized information packets are available on any health topic upon request.

Kessler E-mail Updates
Users of the Michele and Howard Kessler Health Education Library can be updated each month about the newest resources in the library. Please send an email to KesslerLibrary@partners.org with the message "Subscribe Kessler-L Your Name" in the subject line if you would like to be added to the email list.
Services for People with Disabilities
The library provides many services and resources for people with a variety of disabilities, including TTY phone access, books on tape, Braille materials and resources about disabilities topics.
Instant Messaging Ask-a-Librarian
Our Meebo Ask-a-Librarian service is available in the library and in many family waiting rooms to request or renew books, find out more about the library, sign up for classes and ask our staff reference questions.
