What to expect at your consultation
It is important that you fully understand what the procedure entails and feel comfortable with your decision. Your doctor also needs information from you including your medical history.
Confirmation letter. After you make your appointment, you should receive a confirmation letter in the mail from your surgeon's Patient Coordinator reminding you of the date, time and location. You may also be sent forms to be completed, payment information and/or other instructions that may be required of you prior to your visit.
Before your consultation. Prior to your appointment, you will need to register with the Brigham and Women's Hospital by calling 1.866.489.4056 or at the Registration desk near the 45 Francis Street entrance. If you register by phone, you will receive a blue registration card in the mail. If you register on-site, you will receive your registration card at that time.
To minimize waiting time you can fill out the Patient Medical Data Sheet and Patient Registration forms prior to your visit. Please fill out these forms and bring them to your consultation. You should also bring a list of your current medications and dosages, health insurance card and co-payment (if applicable).
Ask questions. This is the opportunity to ask questions and gain a full understanding of the procedure, its risks, and the recovery period. Many patients find it helpful to write down their questions prior to the appointment.
Your expectations. Your surgeon will ask for your reasons and expectations regarding the procedure and discuss these issues with you to make sure that your expectations are realistic. Different options may be available to discuss.
Recovery plan. Your surgeon will explain the recovery process in detail, including restrictions on certain activities, when you can return to work, and what preparations you need make prior to your surgery. This information is used for you to plan for your surgery accordingly—allowing enough time for a full recovery while taking into account any work and family responsibilities.
Consultation cost and payment. The cost for a cosmetic consultation is $125. We require payment at the time of your appointment. Cash, personal checks, Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover are accepted for payment.
If you are seeking reconstructive plastic surgery and you have health insurance, your consultation may be covered by insurance. If your insurance plan requires a referral, please make sure that it is in place prior to your office visit. Co-payments, if applicable are due and payable at the time of service. |
