UHC Quality and Accountability Top Performer
In 2007, for the third year in a row, the University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) recognized Brigham and Women's Hospital for demonstrating excellence in delivering high-quality, safe, effective, and equitable care to patients. BWH emerged as one of the top performers following the rigorous application of a scoring methodology that considered performance measures in the domains of safety, mortality, effectiveness, and equity. Leapfrog Group Top Hospital 2007
In 2007, for the third year in a row, Brigham and Women's Hospital was named to the Leapfrog Group’s list of "Top Hospitals" for making significant strides in quality and patient safety. Only forty-one hospitals nation-wide received this distinction (33 adult and 8 children's), which is based on a rating system that provides an assessment of quality and safety. U.S. News & World Report: Best Hospitals Honor Roll 2007
In the recently announced US News & World Report Best Hospitals Honor Roll 2007, Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) was proud to be recognized as the #10 hospital nationwide. Thomson: Top 100 & Top Performance Improvement Leader
BWH was named one of the nation's top 100 hospitals, and was also named a top performance improvement leader by Thomson Healthcare. BWH and its senior management team were recognized for being one of a hundred hospitals making the greatest progress in improving hospital-wide performance over five consecutive years (2001-2005). This annoucement appears in the August 6, 2007 issue of Modern Healthcare magazine.
American Heart Association: Get With the Guidelines
Brigham and Women's Hospital was one of 277 hospitals in the United States recognized in the July 23,2007 issue of US News & World Report by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With the GuidelinesSM (GWTG) program in an ad for its performance achievement in cardiac and stroke patient care. The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s GWTG program is a quality-improvement program that helps hospitals insure that patients consistently receive cardiac and stroke care in accordance with the most up-to-date guidelines and recommendations. Heart Failure 30-Day Death Rate Lower than the US National Average
Based on July, 2007 data from the Department of Health and Human Services Hospital Compare website, Brigham and Women's Hospital was among the 38 (of 4,807) hospitals nationwide to have a 30-Day heart failure death rate which was statistically significantly better than the US national average death rate of 11%. Joint Commission: Gold Seal of Approval 2007
Brigham and Women's Hospital is fully accredited by the Joint Commission, an organization formerly known a JCAHO, which is responsible for accrediting hosptials nationwide. BWH underwent the accreditation survey in January, 2007 and was, once again, given full accreditation in April, 2007. Based on the Joint Commission Quality Check, BWH has better than average care for both Heart Attack and Heart Failure. NCQHC National Quality Health Care Award
In 2006, Brigham and Women's Hospital became the first hospital in New England to win the prestigious National Quality Health Care Award from the National Committee for Quality Health Care (NCQHC). BWH is just the 13th hospital to receive this annual award, which is given based on performance across eight dimensions of quality: leadership commitment; strategic planning; patient-centered practices; innovative informatics and application of new technologies; building a committed workforce; evidence-based performance measurement and improvement systems; strong financial management; and community health needs.
