The African Women's Health Center was opened in July 1999
- First African clinic in the United States.
- One session per week, now 15-20 patients per session.
- Patients predominantly from Somalia, Sudan and Ethiopia.
- Total number of visits in FY 2004 was approximately 1,000.
- Ninety percent of these women have undergone female genital cutting.
- Numerous defibulation procedures (plastic reconstruction of scar) performed.
