Our Services
By working with you, your oncology team, and providers in your community, we blend palliative care into your cancer therapy. We provide:
Expert treatment of pain and other symptoms
Pain and other symptoms, such as nausea, breathing difficulties, anxiety, and difficulty sleeping, can make it more difficult for you to enjoy life. Expert treatment can address these.
Emotional and spiritual support for you and your family
A serious illness can be sad and frightening for both the patient and family. Talking can be helpful, as can medication. Especially when young children are involved, palliative care can help family members support one another.
Excellent communication and compassionate care
All adult patients receiving cancer care, and their families, can benefit from information about their illness and the chance to discuss concerns and questions. Palliative care staff are resources for this kind of dialogue.
Guidance and support with difficult treatment choices and end-of-life issues
Sometimes, patients and families face difficult choices about future treatments: Is it better to continue anticancer treatment, or to consider hospice care at home? Are the side effects of a particular therapy worth going through? We can help patients and their families think about and discuss these concerns.
Help in navigating the healthcare system
The healthcare system can be confusing and overwhelming. We can help you learn about resources and figure out what you may need.
Inpatient and outpatient care
Palliative care services are available for patients both in the hospital and in outpatient clinics at Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center.
Help in coordinating care at home and in the community
Community resources can make it possible for you to receive as much care as possible at home. We can help you learn about services, including hospice, and help coordinate symptom management and psychosocial support plans with community resources.
24-hour availability
You will have access to expert help around the clock. We provide support for managing symptoms and other issues 24 hours a day.
