Our Services

The Department of Radiation Oncology at Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center provides consultation and radiation planning and treatment to patients of all ages. Most patients are outpatients, but a few are inpatients hospitalized at Brigham and Women's Hospital or Children's Hospital Boston. The patient population is drawn from metropolitan Boston, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, surrounding states and other countries, in close collaboration with multidisciplinary disease-centered teams from Brigham and Women's Hospital, Dana-Farber and Children's Hospital.

The Department consists of two separate treatment units, one at Brigham and Women's Hospital and one at the Dana-Farber. Physicians and administrative personnel, as well as therapists and physics staff, go between the two units. Care providers work in multidisciplinary teams that include an attending physician, a resident physician, a registered nurse, physicists, radiation therapists, and dosimetrists. The team works together to develop and execute an individualized radiation therapy plan for each patient. Radiation safety and engineering personnel complete the staff. Resources are available from Nutrition, Care Coordination, the chaplaincy, social work, child life specialists and the Departments of Psychiatry and Physical Therapy. Education and support groups are available to patients and families, as is a resource center for printed and on-line educational materials.
