Diseases Treated
Soft Tissue and Bone Sarcomas
The physicians in the Sarcoma Radiation Oncology group are integral members of the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Multidisciplinary Sarcoma Program. The program includes medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists and orthopedic surgeons. Also instrumental to the Sarcoma Program are the pathologists, radiologists, pain management specialists, nurse practitioners and physical therapists. All new patient cases are presented and discussed at weekly program meetings, and there is a strong emphasis on providing excellent integrated care for these patients.
State of the art radiation therapy is provided for the care of sarcoma patients, including 3-D conformal therapy, intensity modulated radiation therapy, and brachytherapy (radioactive sources that are either implanted at the time of surgery and permanent, or delivered through treatment catheters and then removed). Depending upon the tumor type and location as well as other clinical considerations, radiation is sometimes delivered concurrently with chemotherapy.
Above all, the Sarcoma Program strives to deliver outstanding care to patients.
