About Us
The Student Success Jobs Program (SSJP) is an intensive after school and summer employment program at the Center for Community Health and Health Equity at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. It is designed to give high school students a meaningful work experience in the health care environment, and expose them to various careers in medicine and science.
Through SSJP, students from Boston public high schools are selected for paid internships at the hospital. SSJP partners with over 35 different Brigham and Women's Hospital departments in which students are placed, including the operating room, department of medicine, thoracic surgery, podiatry, radiology, patient floors, and various clinical and research labs.
SSJP matches students with a mentor within the department who provides them with hands-on work and provides them guidence and direction. Many SSJP students have succefully formed relationships with their mentors that last for years after they graduate from the program.
To compliment the hospital experience, students are required to attend monthly seminars focused on developing life skills, improving nutrition habits, learning about financial responsibility and engaging in healthly relationships. Students are also required to submit their report cards each marking period and must maintain a certain GPA, or attend tutoring sesions. SSJP seniors are encouraged to partake in college prep workshops which provide intense support with the college application process. SSJP seniors are also eligible to apply for the SSJP Scholarship which provides financial support for the first year of college.
