One of the largest cardiovascular centers in the United States, the Heart & Vascular Center—nationally ranked in the specialty of heart and vascular by U.S. News & World Report—treats over 50,000 outpatients and 7,000 inpatients and performs more than 8,000 procedures annually at the state-of-the-art Shapiro Cardiovascular Center.
All inpatient and outpatient cardiovascular services are available at BWH’s Shapiro Cardiovascular Center in Boston, and outpatient cardiovascular services are also available at four other convenient BWH locations: Gretchen S. and Edward A. Fish Center for Women's Health in Chestnut Hill, Brigham and Women’s/Mass General Health Care Center in Foxborough, and Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital and Brookside Community Health Center in Jamaica Plain. Brigham and Women’s Hospital also has affiliations with Kent Hospital in Warwick, Rhode Island; Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine; and Harbor Medical Associates, where patients can be seen by BWH providers.

In October 2016 it was announced that an international team led by Calum MacRae, MD, PhD, Chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, has been selected to receive the One Brave Idea Research Award, a five-year, $75 million award from the American Heart Association, Verily Life Sciences and AstraZeneca to research genetic and molecular markers of heart disease. This is in addition to the over 150 clinical trials our cardiologists currently have in the research-to-patient-care pipeline, promising a brighter, heart-healthy future for millions.
