The research supporting the mission of the Cardiovascular Genetics Center takes place at the Seidman Laboratory, located in the Department of Genetics at Harvard Medical School. Led by Dr. Christine Seidman and her husband, Dr. Jonathan Seidman, the Seidman Laboratory has been at the forefront of research relative to the molecular basis of inherited cardiovascular disorders for more than a decade.
Research teams at the Seidman Lab have made important contributions to uncovering the roles of mutations in sarcomere protein genes and other genes in the development of familial hypertrophic and dilated cardiomyopathies. Other contributions include the creation of important mouse models for the investigation of cardiomyopathy physiology and the development of novel treatment strategies.
The Seidman research laboratory is recognized internationally for innovative cardiovascular genetic research. Patients have the opportunity to participate in pioneering research to further the understanding and treatment of inherited cardiovascular disorders.
More information on their research in genetic causes of cardiovacular disorders can be found on the following research websites: Howard Hughes Medical Institute and CardioGenomics.
Publications regarding the research at the Seidman Lab can be found through the National Center for Biotechnology Information.
