Carotid Angiography X-ray pictures are taken of dye injected into your carotid artery during a heart catheterization in order to identify any blockages. A treatment plan is developed with your doctor if blockages are seen.
3-D Angiography Rotation of the X-ray system is used during a heart catheterization to acquire multiple views of the arteries and then a 3D image is constructed using specialized computer graphics. A treatment plan is developed with your doctor if any arteries are found to be blocked.
Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) A very small plastic tube (catheter) with an ultrasound probe at its tip is positioned from the groin or wrist into the carotid artery. The ultrasound tip allows the doctor to take detailed measurements and pictures of the artery from the inside of the blood vessel. This test allows the doctor to see the inside surface of the artery and any stent that may have been implanted.
