Mitral Valvuloplasty: During a heart catheterization a small tube will be inserted into your leg. Your doctor will insert a balloon through a catheter (or small tube) and it will be threaded up to the opening of your mitral valve. The doctor inflates the balloon which stretches the valve open. Most patients feel that their symptoms are much better after the procedure.
Aortic Valvuloplasty: Same as described above, however the balloon will be threaded up to the opening of your aortic valve. The balloon is inflated which then stretches the valve open.
Clinical Trials: Several clinical trials are available for patients with heart valve disease (e.g., E-Valve for mitral regurgitation).
