Lymph node specimens must be delivered to the laboratory within 6 hours of resection. Note time of resection.
Place specimen in a sterile conical tube containing 50 mL Hanks Balanced Salt Solution or sterile saline.
Ship specimen at room temperature. Please DO NOT REFRIGERATE.
FISH on paraffin blocks: send block or cut 3 to 5 sections of embedded tissue at 50 microns.
FISH on a touch-prep: make a fresh cut of the fresh or frozen lymph node. GENTLY touch the fresh cut surface (several times) to the center of the clean slide. Label the slides with the case identifiers. Allow the slide to air-dry. Place in a covered container to prevent damage to the specimen side of the slide.
