Brigham and Women’s Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship Programs

Brigham and Women's has both an ACGME accredited Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship training programs. They are organized to provide the intellectual environment, formal instruction, peer interaction and broadly supervised clinical experience necessary for fellows to master the knowledge, skills and attitudes essential to the practice of clinical neurophysiology and epilepsy. The program continues its successful record of training fellows for top positions all over the world since 1996 and strongly values and prioritizes diversity, inclusion, and equity. Starting 2023, recruitment for all the CNP/Epilepsy fellowships will utilize the NRMP match system and tele-interviews to help achieve a more equitable process.

Our Facilities

fellows reading scanBrigham and Women’s Hospital is a 750-bed general hospital with a general neurology ward service and with an average census of 20. There is a Neurology-Neurosurgery ICU (9C and 9D) with 20 beds, all wired for EEG monitoring. The Epilepsy Monitoring Unit has six brand new wired beds with a built-in video camera in the ceiling of the private rooms located on 5D, with overflow onto 10C and 10D.

There is a video-EEG server for portable monitoring, emergency neurology and consult services; two inpatient neurology services; an large and newly renovated Emergency Department with Level 1 Trauma Center; a large EMG laboratory and neuromuscular subspecialty clinic; a world renowned sleep laboratory; and outpatient clinic facilities including general neurology and epilepsy clinics, a first seizure clinic and a women’s epilepsy program.

Children's Hospital, Boston, is one of the largest and best pediatric medical centers in the United States. Children’s Hospital offers a complete range of health care services for children from birth through 21 years of age. The Epilepsy/EEG program has a six-bed epilepsy monitoring unit, with full surgical capabilities, under the direction of Phillip L. Pearl, MD. Children’s Hospital is adjacent to the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and connected via an indoor corridor. Fellows attend conferences, lectures and research symposia and have access to clinical material at this large pediatric facility.

Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital Boston are both accredited by the Joint Commission for Accreditation of Hospitals (JCAHO). The Training Program is approved by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education’s Residency Review Committee for one year of training. A potential second year ACGME or research fellowship for candidates who are interested in advanced training and research in epilepsy requires advanced discussion with the division chief and program directors.
