The BWH Emergency Department and Trauma Service provide multidisciplinary state-of-the-art care for trauma patients. Brigham and Women's Hospital is a Level I Trauma Center. A helipad on the BWH campus accommodates Helicopter patients.
Main Emergency Department

Teams of clinicians lead by board certified emergency physicians treat patients in newly renovated treatment rooms designated to handle cardiac emergencies, resuscitation and stabilization, surgical, orthopedic and gynecological procedures, and isolation.
Emergency Cardio-Neuro Unit
The Emergency Cardiac-Neuro Unit (ECNU) is a discrete 5 bed unit designed to improve early intervention for heart attack and stroke patients through coordination with radiologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, cardiologists and cardiac surgeons, providing rapid access to the 24-hour, seven-day-a-week resources of our Cardiovascular Center and Stroke Center– reducing such factors as "door to balloon" time for patients needing immediate cardiac catheter treatment or thrombolysis for acute stroke.
Fast Track
The Fast Track is a designated area designed to provide rapid assessment and treatment for minor illness and injury.
ED Observation Unit

Patient and Family Service
In an effort to ensure that all patients receive the highest quality of care and have a positive experience in the ED, the services of social workers, interpreters, chaplains and financial counselors are provided
