Caroline Fox, M.D.
Dr. Fox is a Medical Officer at the Framingham Heart Study, and is employed by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Fox has three major focuses of research: obesity, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease. She conducts both population-based epidemiologic research, as well as genetic epidemiology research at the Framingham Heart Study, including linkage analysis and candidate gene association studies. Dr. Fox is the Director of the Computed Tomography Abdominal Adiposity Study, a study measuring subcutaneous and visceral adipose tissue volumes in several thousand participants of the Framingham Heart Study. This study is investigating the relations between metabolic risk factors and adipose tissue compartments, and genes that underlie differential adipose tissue deposition. Dr. Fox also performs research in diabetes and metabolic syndrome, focusing on relations with cardiovascular disease, as well as in trends over time. She is interested in the relation between cardiovascular disease risk factors and chronic kidney disease, as well as genes that underlie chronic kidney disease.
