Window Films.
A member writes that the Llumar brand of window film made by CP Films of Martinsville, VA has helped him a lot. He mentions the film number - N1020-SRCDF. This particular film is for use on windows - home or office: CP Films also makes films for car windows. The number 20 in the film number indicates that this particular film allows only 20% of the visible light through. According to a person at CP Films, the films made for building windows (flat glass) cannot easily be put on car windows, because of a difference in manufacturing process, but the company can tell you which car window film to get which would compare to the light transmission features of the flat glass film. Call 800-345-6088 for more information, and the name of a distributor/installer in your area.
In the past we have mentioned other window film brands which people have used and found satisfactory, such as Scotchtint and Solargard. We have taken light transmission spectra of these two brands as well as the Llumar films. The spectra are quite similar, so it would appear that the brands may be similar, and so the important thing to request from any brand's manufacturer is to get the filter with the percent of visible light transmission that you can tolerate. Also, it is important to check what percentage of light transmission your state office of motor vehicles will allow. The International Window Film Association has a table on their website which lists the current limitatons. You can find this table on their web site: www.iwfa.com - then click "automitive" under "window film", and then click on the US law table. If you find that your state's limitations do not give you enough protection, then call your state's division of motor vehicles medical affairs/disability plates office to find out what you need to do to get a variance.
Surgery for EPP people.
Hopefully you will not need any, but if you do, you should be aware that the strong lights in the operating room can cause EPP photosensitivity in your internal organs. It is recommended that you inform your surgeon that: 1. the operating room lights should be covered with a clear window film - the brand which has been successfully used is CLS-200-X from the Madico Co., Woburn, MA. 2. the surgeon keep your skin covered with surgical drapes, and also keep any exposed internal organs as covered as possible.
