MORE COPING TIPS
Not much new to report, but here are some coping tips that EPPREF members have found useful:
1) A company called Gustbuster makes an embrella they call "Sunbuster" which has UV refelctive material on the outside and a dark green layer on the inside - this umbrella allowed the Mom who told us about it to watch her kids play ball. She says you can order it from either orders@igolfstore.com or by calling 1-800-966-0161.
2) The American Sun Protection Association lists on their web-site stores which sell sun-protective clothing and sun-protection devices. Their web address is: www.americansun.org .
3) The RIT people, which manufactures gabric yes, and is a subsidiary of Best Foods, Inc. has developed a product called "Sun Guard" which according to them, "washes UV protection into clothing". Their website is http://www.ritdye.com/sun_guard/. This product according to them has been awarded the Skin Cancer Foundation's Seal of Recommendation.
NOTE: Although all of these products have been designed to protect people against UV-A and UV-B rays of the sun, which cause skin cancer, the UV-A protection may overlap into the low-300 nm range of visible light, which is the bad guy for EPP. We can't guarantee that they will work for you, but since other EPP people have found them helpful, they may be worth a try.
TWO ARTICLES
We are reprinting two articles which you might find useful. One by Dr. Elizabeth Ruefiner, a Swiss psychologist who also has EPP, on how people cope with EPP, and a small article from "Family Circle" about dealing with health insurers to get reimbursements - might be helpful for getting coverage for Lumitene.
