Dr. Nurok is a member of the Department of Anaesthesia and the Department of Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Nurok graduated medical school from the University of Cape Town in South Africa after which he completed a doctorate at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris, France followed by a Residency in Anesthesiology and Fellowships in Critical Care Medicine, Cardiac and Thoracic Anesthesia at The Brigham and Women's Hospital. He works clinically in the Intensive Care Units and Operating Rooms caring for patients undergoing heart and lung surgery. His research focuses on human factors and the social, ethical, and philosophical implications of treating critically ill patients with particular emphasis on cultural considerations. He is an active member of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Ethics Committee, the Partners Institutional Review Board, and the American Society of Anesthesiologists Ethics Committee.
