Suellen Breakey is the Cardiac Surgery Nurse Coordinator for the Division of Cardiac Surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital. She has taught ethics at both the MGH Institute of Health Professions and Boston College. Her clinical background is in intensive care, cardiac surgery, hospice, and oncology nursing. She has held positions as a staff nurse, clinical nurse specialist, and clinical nursing instructor. Dr. Breakey earned a BS in biology from Salem State College, an MSN in Critical Care nursing from MGH Institute of Health Professions, and a PhD in nursing from Boston College. Her dissertaion research focused on nurses' participation in life sustaining treatment decision making for seriouly-ill adults. Her interests include issues surrounding end-of-life care, the role of communication in patient safety, and global ethics.
