The Family Liaison staff use a computerized tracking system to update family and friends regarding progress of a patient's surgery or other complicated procedure. The staff maintains the name and location of the person to be notified when the patient's procedure is completed, and assigns beepers for those wishing to leave the area. Patients' belongings are logged in and stored, until the patient has been assigned to a post-operative room. The family is informed of the room assignment and the estimated time for the patient to be transferred.
The Family Liaison Service offers:
- A waiting area filled with comfortable chairs and tables
- A kitchenette
- A business center with telephones, fax, computers with internet access, phone jacks and a copier machine
- Leisure activities including reading materials, TV, cards and board games
- Private areas to rest or have a discussion with your loved one's care providers
