You will have an appointment at the Roberta and Stephen R. Weiner Center for Preoperative Evaluation one to 30 days before your surgery or your procedure.
Your surgeon’s office will send you a letter with the date and time of your preoperative appointment, along with the date and time of your surgery, and other instructions you will need. Depending on what you need, your appointment will last one to three hours. Be sure to bring to your appointment a list of any medications you are taking.
The Weiner Center offers:
information and instruction from doctors, nurses and other health care professionals;
blood tests, x-rays, urine testing and other lab tests;
preoperative history and physical examinations;
formulation of a plan with you for your anesthesia.
This information will then be provided to the anesthesia team scheduled for your surgery.
Please bring with you the names and phone numbers of your primary care physician and any specialists who follow your care. If your medical history is complicated, ask your physicians to fax your medical information to the Weiner Center at (617) 734-6392. Having your medical information in advance will enable us to serve you in a more timely and efficient manner on the day of your preoperative visit. Remember to bring to your appointment a list of medications you are taking, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, as well as any herbal and vitamin supplements.
The Weiner Center is located near the 45 Francis Street entrance across from Ambulatory Services and can be contacted by telephone at (617) 732-7484. Parking is available in the underground garage at 45 Francis Street, or with valet parking that is available at each hospital entrance. The Weiner Center’s hours are: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Wednesday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. (The last scheduled appointment time is 3:45 p.m.)
Preoperative Telephone Assessment
When medically appropriate, the preoperative visit to the hospital is replaced by a telephone assessment. If your physician determines that you meet the guidelines, a registered nurse from the Weiner Center will call you within two weeks of your scheduled surgery date. If you have any questions regarding a telephone assessment, please call (617) 525-7024.
