John Poneros received his M.D. from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Following his Gastroenterology Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Poneros completed a combined Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship year at both Brigham and Women’s Hospital and MGH. As a Research Fellow, Dr. Poneros’ research interests were in the use of emerging imaging technologies to study the mucosa of the gastrointestinal tract. Dr. Poneros studied the use of optical coherence tomography, a high-resolution two-dimensional imaging modality, to diagnose dysplasia in Barrett’s esophagus and evaluate biliary tract disorders. Dr. Poneros’ clinical interests are in pancreatico-biliary diseases and Barrett’s esophagus.
