General Gynecology
We have a three-part mission at Brigham and Women’s General Gynecology Practice: To develop knowledgeable and sensitive gynecologic practitioners; to provide excellent women’s health care to our community; and to provide specialized services to medically complex patients within our own hospital. We strive to balance these three goals through our longitudinal continuity care practice.

Mission
The overall mission of the African Women’s Health Center is to holistically improve the health of refugee women who have undergone female genital cutting. It provides access, understanding and community to women who have had long-term complications from this tradition and who seek access to improved reproductive health care. The Center's goal is not only to educate African women on methods of stopping this practice, but also to educate American health providers on the cultural, health and legal issues pertaining to this practice.
Nawal M. Nour, MD, MPH, opened the African Women's Health Center in July 1999. This center provides one OB/GYN session per week for women who have undergone female genital cutting. The Center’s mission is to improve the health status of immigrant and refugee populations of African descent who live in the United States through health services, education and advocacy. It also provides extensive outreach and education to health providers on culturally competent care to circumcised women.
