Diagnosis Information:
Dietary Instructions after Laparoscopic Esophageal Surgery
Diet after a Laparoscopic Antireflux Procedures:
(Nissen, Toupet or Heller myotomy)
Your doctor will ask you to alter your diet because of your surgery. A blended or liquid diet will help you maintain your nutrition and allow the surgical site to heal. Most often, people follow this diet for about 10 days to two weeks after surgery. However, you should discuss advancing your diet with your doctor. If you already follow a special diet or have food allergies, your dietitian will help you adapt this food plan to your personal needs.
The types of foods you should choose during this time are foods that are liquid or blended, so that they do not require chewing.
Examples of appropriate foods include: milk, water, juice, nectars, soy milk, frappes, custard, yogurt, pudding, applesauce (not chunky), pureed chicken or beef (cut into small pieces and blended in blender or food processor).
