| | | Specialty Procedures: Office Surgery Many anorectal problems and minor problems of the abdominal wall can be treated in the office. We have two small procedure rooms in our clinic where biopsies, removal of sutures, ligation of hemorrhoids and other small procedures can be performed. We have trained medical assistants to help with these procedures. The most common procedure performed in the office is proctosigmoidoscopy of the lower 10-15 cm of the rectum. Usually a minor preparation with a Fleet enema is required prior to this procedure. Small hemorrhoids can be ligated in the office. Written post-procedure instructions are given to the patient. Biopsies of lesions located anywhere in the perianal skin, abdominal wall, and on the extremities and trunk are performed in the office using local anesthesia. Most of these procedures can be performed on the day of your visit, although sometimes a separate office appointment is required. |
