Dr. David Sugarbaker, Founder of the International Mesothelioma Program
Approximately 2,000 new patients are diagnosed with mesothelioma every year. With 310 consultations per year and more than 180 patients, the International Mesothelioma Program (IMP) at Brigham and Women's Hospital / Harvard Medical School is the largest program of its kind in the world.
Founded by David J. Sugarbaker, MD, the IMP encompasses a clinical program, a research program and a support program. Our clinical focus is on developing treatment strategies that can significantly extend the life of our patients. Our research focus involves a collaboration of basic, translational, and clinical research scientists whose aim is to understand the causative factors in the development of the disease and to translate these findings into improved therapy.
