Mark Vrahas, MD, is the Chief of the Partners Orthopaedic Trauma Service. The Partners Orthopaedic Trauma Service provides orthopaedic trauma care to both the Mass General Hospital and BWH. Dr. Vrahas graduated from medical school and completed his residency at the University of Pittsburgh. Formerly the Chief of Orthopaedic Trauma at the Charity Hospital in New Orleans, he is considered a national and international expert in the management and treatment of pelvic and acetabular fractures.
Mitchel Harris, MD, is the Chief of the BWH Orthopaedic Trauma Service. Dr. Harris graduated medical school from the University of Illinois. He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Dartmouth/Hitchcock Medical Center. He completed fellowships in trauma and adult spine surgery at the University of Toronto, Sunnybrook Health Science Centre, and Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, UK. His clinical interests lie in the treatment of peri-articular fractures and spinal column injuries.
Thomas S. Thornhill, MD, is the Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Thornhill graduated from Weill Medical College of Cornell University. He first completed a residency program in Internal Medicine at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital and then a second residency in Orthopaedic Surgery through the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program. He completed a fellowship in total joint replacement at the Robert Breck Brigham Hospital. His special clinical interests include joint replacements of the hip, knee, shoulder and elbow.
The Orthopaedic Trauma Service enjoys an excellent collaborative relationship with all of the other BWH Orthopaedic subspecialty services. When the Trauma Service encounters complex problems that require additional clinical input, several members of the Orthopaedic Department actively contribute.
Foot and Ankle Specialists
Michael G. Wilson, MD, is the Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at the Faulkner Hospital. Dr. Wilson graduated from the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at LA County/USC Medical Center. He has completed fellowships in foot and ankle surgery as well as adult reconstruction.
Christopher Chiodo, MD, is the Chief of the Foot and Ankle Service. He is a graduate of Harvard Medical School and the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program. He subsequently completed a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.
Eric M. Bluman, MD, PhD, is a graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo Medical School. He completed his orthopaedic residency at Brown Unversity/Rhode Island Hospital. He completed a fellowship in Orthopaedic Trauma at Brown University/Rhode Island Hospital and a fellowship at the Institute for Foot and Ankle Reconstruction at Mercy in Baltimore.
Hand and Upper Extremity Service
Philip Blazar, MD, graduated from Harvard Medical School. Dr. Blazer completed his orthopaedic residency and an Upper Extremity Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Dr. Blazer is an elbow and wrist specialist.
Brandon Earp, MD, is a graduate of Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Earp completed her residency at the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program. She completed her fellowship in Upper Extremity Surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital. She is interested in complex trauma to the upper extremity.
George Sinclair Dyer, MD, is a graduate of Harvard Medical School. Dr Dyer completed his residency at the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program. He completed his fellowship in Upper Extremity Surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital.
Joint Reconstruction
Daniel M. Estok II, MD, graduated from the University of Miami Medical School. He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Duke University Medical Center and then a Total Joint Reconstruction Fellowship at Mass General Hospital. Dr. Estok specializes in joint replacement surgery and associated revision secondary to fractures and reconstructive failures.
John Ready, MD, is the Chief of the Orthopedic Oncology Service. He graduated from medical school and completed his residency at Dalhousie University Faculty of Medicine in Canada. He completed orthopaedic fellowships in Oncology and Joint Reconstruction at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada and at Mass General Hospital.
Sports Medicine and Shoulder
Scott D. Martin, MD, is a graduate of Jefferson Medical College and Hospital for Special Surgery Orthopaedic Residency. He completed Fellowships in Sports Medicine and Total Joint Reconstructiuon. He participates in the reconstruction of ligament injuries around the knee and complex shoulder injuries encountered by the Trauma Service.
Laurence D. Higgins, MD, is the Chief of the Sports Medicine and Shoulder Service as well as the Service Chief at BWH for the Harvard Shoulder Service. He is a graduate of State University of New York-Stony Brook Medical School and Cornell - Hospital For Special Surgery. He completed his Fellowship in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He particpates in complex shoulder injuries encounterd by the Trauma Service.
