Welcome to the Division of Preventive Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital, an internationally recognized center for epidemiologic research. Members of the Division are engaged in research, teaching, and training, with the mission of advancing the practice of preventive medicine. Our primary research focus is the prevention of chronic diseases, with an emphasis on the conduct of large-scale randomized clinical trials addressing the prevention of cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, and age-related eye disease. Additionally, we have collected detailed medical histories, diet assessments, and blood and DNA samples on tens of thousands of participants followed for two decades, which allow our faculty and trainees to explore a virtually unlimited number of hypotheses related to lifestyle, molecular, and genetic determinants of disease. The Division's
faculty embodies a diversity of complementary disciplines, including clinical medicine, cardiology, genetics, biostatistics, and epidemiology.
