Primary research interests:
Dr. Schaumberg's principal research interest is in chronic disease epidemiology, especially regarding the roles of both environmental and genetic risk factors and their joint influences on the risk of common eye diseases of public health importance. In particular, she has been at the forefront of identifying novel risk factors for dry eye syndrome, cataract, diabetic retinopathy, and, most recently, age-related macular degeneration, which have enhanced our understanding of these diseases and laid the groundwork for a more informed development of possible preventive and therapeutic strategies.
